CHIROPRACTIC
Chiropractic services at Donnington Grove are provided by Dr Nicole Jones MRCVS who qualified as an Equine Chiropractor with the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic and uses these techniques as well as acupuncture in treatments.
Chiropractic is a manual therapy used to treat areas of the spine and joints where the movement of joints is restricted. Restricted areas change the horse’s movement and increase the biomechanical strain on other parts of the body.
Restricted areas have altered blood flow and neural stimulation which results in inflammation and muscle fatigue. Long term this causes joint stiffness, muscular tension, pain and biomechanical overload of the area.
Chiropractic adjustments are used to treat restricted areas. These are very specific manual techniques and aim to restore normal blood flow and neuromuscular function.
Veterinary chiropractic does not replace traditional veterinary medicine. However, it is a useful technique to treat back pain, multi-limb lameness issues and poor performance in combination with current veterinary diagnosis and treatments.
